Visuals in Analytics hub
Visualizations, also called visuals for short, display insights that are discovered in the data. A Power BI report in Analytics hub presents pages full of visuals that help you see and compare different data for a deep dive into your company performance.
Visual types
Timeline - a timeline chart presents actions taken over the time the application has been used by the user. Hover over the numbers to see the date or time period when the number of actions have been taken. Hover over the number to see the details of this item and click Drill down or Drill up to expand or shrink the timeline.
Percentage - shows you a percentage of the users that have accomplished the measured action.
Table - table visual shows you the elements of the report and their hierarchy.
Pie chart - represents categories in form of slices .
Doughnut chart - show the relationship of parts to a whole.
Gauge chart - represents how well a given metric is performing against the target end goal.
Column chart - presents categorical data with columns with heights or lengths proportional to the values that they represent.
Stacked column chart - extends the standard bar chart from looking at numeric values across one categorical variable to two or more.
Matrix chart - shows relationships between two or more variables in a data set in grid format.
Single number cart - displays a single fact, a single data point.
Combo chart - combines a column chart and a line chart allowing for a quicker comparison of the data.
Visual options
By clicking at one element on any widget, you adjust all the visuals on the page to the value of this element which helps you investigate it further against different charts.
Some of the widgets come with additional options, to help you manage the data inside them. To get access to this options, hover over a widget and the additional icons will appear on the top right corner of the widget, as illustrated in the following picture:
Widget options
The three options available for all the visuals are:
Filters and slicers affecting this visual - this option allows you to see if the widgets was filtered and which filters where used on it.
Focus mode - after clicking on this option, you will be redirected to the section containing only this widget. Click Back to report to come back to the previous view.
More options:
Export data - a pop-up window will be displayed asking you to pick the data you want to export. Chose the type of data, from the drop-down list the file format, and click Export. The data will be downloaded on to your local device.
Show as a table - the widget will be opened in a new page together with the table containing all its data.
Spotlight - the other widgets on the page will become less visible, allowing you to focus on the widget you selected.
Get insights - this option is not operative within the Power Bi implementation for Pay Suite.
Sort axis - allows you to sort the data in the widget. The sorting options depend on the data.
Sort by - this option depends on the data that is the basis for the widget. For example some widgets may be sorted by the device.
Sort descending/ascending - allows you to sort data alphabetically or unalbhabetically.
Additional options available or visuals that have a hierarchy applied:
Timeline - right click on the widget to see these options:
Drill up - use it to see the bigger portion of the timeline (for example move from single month to quarter or from quarter to year).
Drill down - use it to expand the element you chose (for example if you click on element that refers to a quarter this element will be split into months in this quarter).
Show as a table - use it to expand the timeline on another page and see the table it refers to.
Show next level - go down in the hierarchy of the chart.
Expand to next level - go one level up in the hierarchy of the chart.
Include - focus only on this single element and ignore others.
Exclude - ignore this element in the chart.
Table - right click on the widget to see these options:
Copy value and copy section - allows you to copy elements of this visual.
Show as a table - a table presenting the values of this visual will appear below.
Include - focus only on this single element and ignore others.
Exclude - ignore this element in the chart.
Unfreeze/freeze row headers - allows you to pin or unpin the row headers in place when scrolling.
Drill up - select this option to get to the item that owns the element you selected.
Drill down - select this option to see element owned by the item you selected.
Show next level - go down in the hierarchy of the table.
Filtering options
You can access filters by using the right hand navigation - click on the Filter tab at the right side of the page and choose your filters. Some are set by default. You may search for filters, using the search bar located at the top of the section.
Filters are divided into three categories:
filters on this visual - activates after clicking on a specific widget.
filters on this page - filter is active only for the report you are currently viewing.
filters on all pages - filter is active for all the reports in the section.
You may sort the filters in a category by clicking on the icon. To expand a filter, click on the arrow located in the top right corner of the filter. You can clear a filter by clicking on the little rubber icon located in the top right corner of the section.
There are two groups of filters:
active filter with check boxes - after checking a box, the data is automatically filtered.
filters that allow you to enter values - after entering a value click Apply filter button to activate the filter.
